- :What makes the Amiga 'special' is NOT just the graphics, the
- :user-friendliness, the low overhead, the robustness of our OS ... it is also
- :the blood, sweat, and tears that so many have given to the product.
-
- ... and just how many machines will the "blood, sweat, and tears" sell? We
- don't need Amiga owners who buy because they feel sorry for the designers.
-
- :We
- :blame them for the ills of the past and will NOT even give them the benefit
- :of the doubt.
-
- Words and action are two different things. *Where are* the ads? Or is AT
- going to sit back and ignore the people of NA? Where's the software in
- easily accessable stores? (The OMG dealer list lists *one* Amiga dealer in
- my state, and they're all the way on the other side)
-
- :I see post after post after post from the same three or four people who
- :state over and over the following reasons for their distress:
-
- *valid* reasons, you might add.
-
- :Pricing is too high? There are several considerations to be made here. The
- :original inventory was NOT put together in a manner that best suits
- :production. Boxes and boxes of misc items to sort and go through. BUT, you
- :can't just throw it away when the user base is clammoring to have demand
- :filled. So, for monetary reasons and for us, they put the units together and
- :got them to market faster than any other new startup company in history.
- :BUT, we bitch ...
-
- ... it doesn't matter what they had to go through to get the product to
- market. If the price is too high, there won't be any new Amiga owners.
- The smart people will go look at the price/performance/availability of
- Amigas and accessories vs other platforms and *won't buy Amigas* unless the
- pricing comes in line (or at least *close*) to what someone would pay for a
- clone.
-
- :No HD floppies? Dr Kittel tried to tell us that sourcing was almost
- :impossible and that some rework would need to be done with the stuff that IS
- :on the market. He also told us that timing was important and that the price
- :would have been even higher. Some ran for the Dell HD drives and have found
- :that they work 'mostly' at best and sometimes not at all! But we bitch ...
-
- HD floppies currently are essential for data sharing between Amigas and
- "those other platforms". No matter what AT's excuse is, it's important to
- have support for HD floppies since HD floppies are the standard way to
- transfer small amounts of data between machines not on the same network.
-
- :Old technology? Just how much R&D can YOU do in such a short time while ALSO
- :trying to outsource parts, production, and distribution channels? Yes, it's
- :'old' technology right now. More IS in the works! But, we bitch ...
-
- Again, excuses aren't important ... results are. The Amiga got its niche
- in the first place because it was technologically superior, but for a
- smaller price than other platforms. (re the introduction of the A500)
- That's not so now, and if AT's going to try to catch up to 1995 with 1985
- technology combined with some 1990 technology, they've got a long hard road
- ahead of them. The Power Amiga *sounds* good, but will it be competitive
- when it finally hits the market? Or will it be similar to C='s last
- offering before it went belly-up ... too little, too late, and at too high
- a price. Bitching? No ... these are valid concernt to anyone who wants to
- invest in anything Amiga.
-
- :Lack of a plan? Hell, the plan has been bandied about here for the last few
- :months. Who is NOT aware of what Amiga Technologies has in mind concerning
- :old technology to fill demand while working on hardware upgrades for the
- :next years models? Who is NOT aware of the efforts taking place to port over
- :the OS, etc to the PPC? Who is NOT aware that PhaseV is nearing completion?
- :Who is NOT aware of the Power Amiga that is planned? But, we bitch ...
-
- Probably people bitch because they see lots of smoke and mirrors and
- nothing really tangible yet. To be expected, no?
-
- :Lack of advertising? What exactly would YOU advertise?
-
- Take a cue from other manufacturers ... the product can be advertised long
- before its ready ... just keep the name in people's minds. Plus, it'd keep
- the people who stuck it out ad are still making Amiga software a little happied.
-
- :Let's advertise when we have something available to really sell that
- :will knock their nose in the dirt! We'd STILL bitch ...
-
- Advertise before you make it ... that way there will be some demand at
- release time.
-
- :Some respect is do him for that
- :whether we agree with his conclusions or not! Think about it every time your
- :fingers touch the keys! PLEASE ...
-
- "Respect" doesn't mean silence when something we think is wrong escapes
- from the "holy lips". This isn't a religion, it's business.
